What it simulates

- Seeded shuffle: FNV-1a hash → mulberry32 PRNG → Fisher-Yates

What DAILY 01 is
DAILY 01 is a rotating camera. Every local day it picks a different film preset from a 60-preset manifest, via a seeded shuffle. Today's preset is not yesterday's preset and not tomorrow's. You get one roll's worth of the day's look, then a new preset drops when the clock rolls over.
The mechanic
- 60-preset manifest — dozens of authored film LUTs shipping in
assets/luts/film/daily-*.png. Airy. Album. Chrome. Dense. Flash. Glow. Gold. Jsnap. Leisure. Neon. Pastel. Portra. Tungsten. And more. - Seeded shuffle — FNV-1a hash of the local date → mulberry32 PRNG → Fisher-Yates shuffle → cached. Same math, same seed, same output.
- Date key: YYYY-MM-DD (local) — same day, same preset, worldwide. Someone in Tokyo shooting today gets the same preset as someone in Los Angeles shooting today.
- One roll per local day — the constraint. You cannot re-roll for a different preset.
Why AUTO-MODE
DAILY 01 is the only camera on the FILM shelf that runs the AUTO-MODE stage. It's a generalist — the day's preset could be a warm-portrait LUT or a tungsten-heavy night LUT or a punchy chrome grade, and the camera has to handle whatever lighting the user is actually shooting in. The EMA-smoothed AE/WB adaptive stage in the frame processor gives it that flexibility. One-shot on capture — the preview stabilises, then bakes at the shutter.
Contrast this with NOCT-800, which disables AUTO-MODE explicitly because normalising night breaks a night camera.
How to shoot with DAILY 01
- Shoot whatever the day gives you. That's the point. Don't try to pick a preset.
- The daily constraint pairs well with a habit — take a photo every day, get whatever character today's preset produces.

Frequently asked questions
Do I get the same preset every day?
No — that's the whole point. Each local day picks a different preset from the 60-preset manifest. The shuffle is deterministic (same date → same preset for everyone) but rotates through the manifest daily. You cannot pick which preset you get.
Can I shoot two rolls in a day with different presets?
No. One roll per local day. The mechanic is a constraint — you commit to today's preset for today's shooting, then a new one shows up tomorrow.
Do I get the same preset as everyone else on the same date?
Yes. The shuffle is deterministic — YYYY-MM-DD (local) hashes to the same index worldwide. Someone shooting DAILY 01 in Tokyo on 2026-09-14 gets the same preset you got in New York on 2026-09-14. This is intentional.
Why does DAILY 01 run AUTO-MODE when NOCT-800 doesn't?
Because DAILY 01 is a generalist camera — it needs to handle whatever the day's preset is, in whatever lighting the user is in. The EMA-smoothed AE/WB adaptive stage helps it manage unpredictable shooting conditions. NOCT-800 disables AUTO-MODE because normalising night defeats a night camera; DAILY 01 embraces it because generalist cameras need scene adaptation.
