What SNAP-27 is
SNAP-27 is a 27-exposure Kodak-style disposable, rebuilt as an iPhone camera. The 35mm frame is real. The 27-shot count is real. The single-fire flash burst is real. The light leaks come from a curated PNG library, seeded per shot, byte-identical on re-develop. The camera doesn't pretend to be a disposable; it behaves like one.
The rules
Three rules make SNAP-27 a camera instead of a filter:
- Twenty-seven shots per roll. When you hit 27, the roll is done. You develop it, then start a new one.
rollCapacity: 27is code, not decoration. - No imports. You cannot pull a photo from your library into a SNAP-27 roll. The develop flow only accepts frames captured through SNAP-27's own viewfinder. Afterhours' internal docs are explicit about why: "an imported photo must not bypass the develop-into-a-roll film fiction."
- Fixed flash, no metering. The flash is a single-shot burst. No preflash for red-eye. No exposure metering. Whatever the flash lights, it lights. That's the disposable-camera flash — modelled, not stylised.
Why the leaks are a library
Procedural light-leak stages produce generic-looking leaks. Real film emulsion errors have specific shapes — winding stripes, edge flare from cracked cassette lips, thermal blooms. Afterhours ships a curated PNG library ('snap-27' pack) instead of a procedural stage, seeded per shot so the same seed always develops to the same leak. That's why the leaks read like film rather than filter.
The procedural leak stage is deliberately zeroed out (leak: 0) — the PNGs own the look.
How to shoot with SNAP-27
- Twenty-seven per roll. Think before you shoot. The point of the discipline is the discipline.
- Point-and-shoot flash photography. The fixed burst suits close subjects — friends, tables, interiors — not landscapes.
- Real 35mm framing at 3:2 default; 4:3 if you want a wider box.
- Develop the roll on-device. Everything stays on your phone; nothing goes anywhere else.

Frequently asked questions
Is the 27-shot roll real, or just a UI counter?
Real. The roll capacity of 27 is code-enforced. When you hit 27, the camera stops. You develop the roll, then start a new one. This is not a decorative counter that resets when you refresh.
Can I import photos into a SNAP-27 roll?
No. Imports are refused for roll cameras. The internal docs put a rule on it: "an imported photo must not bypass the develop-into-a-roll film fiction." SNAP-27 is a camera, not a filter — it processes what its own viewfinder captures, and only that.
Why is the flash so basic?
That's the disposable-camera flash. Real 27-exposure disposables fired a single-shot burst with no metering, no red-eye reduction, no preflash. Whatever the flash lit, it lit. SNAP-27 models the same behaviour — the fixed burst is the point.
Are the light leaks the same every time I re-develop the roll?
Yes. Light leaks come from a curated PNG library ('snap-27' pack) composited post-LUT and seeded per shot. Same seed, same leak, byte-identical every time. This is why they read like real emulsion errors instead of generic overlays.
